After mega launch of scheme, DDA revises flat rates

Three weeks after launching its housing scheme, DDA has revised the rates of its flats in Shalimar Bagh and Rohini by 20 per cent. The rates of flats on offer, one at Shalimar Bagh and 40 at Rohini, were revised through a corrigendum in newspapers.

DDA said that the rates had to be revised due to an “inadvertent” mistake during calculation of the cost of the flats and printing of prices in brochures. “This is only a corrigendum for cost of 41 flats out of the 25,000 which have been offered in this scheme. We have only rectified a mistake. Moreover, the costs of flats mentioned in the brochure are only tentative,” said Neemo Dhar, spokesperson, DDA.

The flats about which the corrigendum was issued are mainly HIG flats and expandable houses. The one flat at Shalimar Bagh on offer, whose rate was mentioned in brochure as Rs 37 lakh, is an HIG category flat with a plinth area of 84.82 sq m. Its rate has been revised to Rs 46.5 lakh.

The 40 flats on offer in Rohini’s sectors 20 to 25 are Type-A expandable houses. These have a plinth area of 35 sq m and can be expanded upwards. Their rates, which were mentioned at Rs 19.8 lakh, have in the corrigendum been mentioned at Rs 21.40 lakh.

Many have criticized DDA to issue a corrigendum with hiked prices within 20 days of launching the housing scheme.

“How will DDA pass on this change to aspirants living out of Delhi or those who plan to submit the forms online? What about those who have already submitted the forms? How can DDA justify this decision after just 20 days of launch?” asked Rahul Gupta, an applicant.

A senior DDA official said that the agency isn’t bound to mention the exact rate of flats and prices are subject to change. This has been mentioned in the housing scheme brochures.
